Aztarac DescriptionColor vector space game where the player pilots a ship, defending the Starbase from attacking alien ships. The ship's flight direction and firing is controlled by a joystick with a trigger (similar to Gorf). Firing direction is controlled by a spinner. The ship stays at the center of the screen while scrolling in a large playfield in eight directions.Know anything more about this game? Cabinet InformationThe monitor bezel has a large circular convex section approximately twelve inches in diameter.Cheats, Tricks and BugsSpinning the spinner at a high rate during parts of the attract-mode will result in the programmer's name (Tim Stryker) appearing in approx. three inch letters across the center of the screen.VAPS Arcade CensusGAMES OWNED, WANTED, or FOR SALE BY MEMBERS OF THE VIDEO ARCADE PRESERVATION SOCIETYScarce - There are 3 known instances of Aztarac owned by one of our 900 members. Of these, 3 of them are original dedicated machines Wanted - There are 4 VAPS members currently looking for Aztarac. Rarity is NOT necessarily an indication of value. Some common games show up as very rare here because collectors don't want them (they are common because arcade operators might be sitting on tons of them in warehouses), while some fairly scarce games are grabbed by collectors every time they show up. Additionally, some games made in the last 5 years are still making money for operators and are thus not yet affordable to the typical collector. For a clue to value, compare how many people have this game vs. how many people want this game and then click on the eBay links to help determine an accurate price range. Alternate Cabinet Imageshttp://www.atarihq.com/museum/coinops/games/aztarac.jpgTechnicalThe game logic uses a 68000 processor and has a Z80 for sound generation. Like Atari's Quantum this game has solid shapes in the display. This game uses a Wells Gardner 19K6401 High Resolution Color XY Monitor.TriviaIt has been said that only 500 units were built. Actual production run quantities are unknown. The designer/programmer Tim Stryker later went on to found Galacticomm (http://www.gcomm.com/). Tim committed suicide in the hills of Colorodo in October of 1996 for unknown reasons.
