Discs Of Tron DescriptionBased on the film "Tron". Play Tron and fling discs at Sark in an attempt to knock him off his platform. Knocking off Sark will advance you to the next level. Other levels vary the level and number of platforms to jump between.Know anything more about this game? Cabinet InformationThe environmental version of this game is huge, weighing in at over 700 pounds. The game was often sawed in two to make it easier to move. The cabinet, though it looks like it should come apart, does not (the roof and floor boards span both halves of the cabinet). The environmental is called such because it attempts to replicate the environment that your character on the screen is experiencing. The player stands inside the cabinet on a disc, and lights around the disc flash when your character dies (just like on screen). The surround sound replicates the sounds of discs that whiz by your character. The two player upright looses a lot of the bells and whistles of the environmental, including speech (though there are some versions of the upright that do have speech boards installed). MiscellaneousLICENSOR: The TRON name and concept were licensed from Walt Disney, the makers of the film.VAPS Arcade CensusGAMES OWNED, WANTED, or FOR SALE BY MEMBERS OF THE VIDEO ARCADE PRESERVATION SOCIETYVery Common - There are 64 known instances of Discs Of Tron owned by one of our 900 members. Of these, 60 of them are original dedicated machines, it is a conversion in which game circuit boards (and possibly cabinet graphics) have been placed in (and on) another game cabinet, and 3 of them are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired. Wanted - Very Popular - There are 51 VAPS members currently looking for Discs Of Tron. For Sale - There are 3 VAPS members with Discs Of Tron machines for sale. VAPS members are totally independent of VAPS and the International Arcade Museum, and we are unable to recommend, endorce, or guarantee any person or company selling games or game parts. Rarity is NOT necessarily an indication of value. Some common games show up as very rare here because collectors don't want them (they are common because arcade operators might be sitting on tons of them in warehouses), while some fairly scarce games are grabbed by collectors every time they show up. Additionally, some games made in the last 5 years are still making money for operators and are thus not yet affordable to the typical collector. For a clue to value, compare how many people have this game vs. how many people want this game and then click on the eBay links to help determine an accurate price range. TechnicalThe environmental cabinet is different from it's upright counterpart in a few ways: 1) EPROM data, 2) Additional PCB boards, including sound, speech, and light sequencer boards and relays, and 3) the upright supports two players. One version of the upright ROMS has the attract mode displaying the points for derezing a disc. There are some other differences in the test mode for this version. The environmental cabinet has nine total fluorescent lights: four black lights and five cool whites. The easy way to tell which assemblies contain the cool-whites versus the black lights is that the cool-whites go in the assemblies which have FS-2 starters (and the assembly behind the monitor backdrop art). The control panel black light fluorescent assembly actually has its ballast and transformer mounted on a separate frame near the rear of the cabinet. The speech is provided via a Squalk and Talk board. The two relay boards are interchangable; one board activates the 3 blacklights where the player stands, and the other one activates the background/monitor artwork lights). TriviaThis game was going to go on the original TRON game, but was moved off due to hardware limitations and time constraints.eBay ListingsClick here to automatically search eBay's Arcade, Jukebox, and Pinball categories for the Discs Of Tron Videogame machine and items related to it.Click here to automatically search eBay's Arcade, Jukebox, and Pinball categories for machines and parts made by Bally Midway.
