Cabinet Information

There was EMnoEM production cabinet manufactured. The prototype used a variation of the custom controller designed for the military IBattlezoneI project, and which was later used on the IStar WarsI vector game.

Game Play

The game started with shooting target bouys and then proceeded onto shooting enemy spaceships.

CAPS/VAPS Arcade Census

There are 6,452 members of the Classic Arcade Preservation Society / Video Arcade Preservation Society, 3,704 whom participate in our arcade census project of games owned, wanted, or for sale. Census data currently includes 60,894 machines (3,615 unique titles).

Rare - There are 2 known instances of this machine owned by Last Starfighter, The collectors. Of these, 2 of them are original dedicated machines

This game ranks a 1 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most commonly seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on census ownership records.

Wanted - No members have added this machine to their wish list. Please note that many collectors are not members or do not list their desires here, and it is likely that a number of collectors might purchase this machine if offered it at the right price.

This game ranks a 0 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most commonly seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on census want list records.

Rarity is NOT necessarily an indication of value. Some common games show up as very rare here because collectors don't want them even though arcade operators might be sitting on tons of them in warehouses, while some fairly scarce games are grabbed by collectors every time they show up.

Additionally, some games made in the last 5 years are still making money for operators and are thus not yet affordable to the typical collector.

In particular, since VAPS started out focusing on videogames, statistics for other types of machines should not (yet) be an indication of scarcity.

For a clue to value, look at absolute numbers of owners and potential owners above, compare a ratio of how many people want this game vs. how many people have this game (0%) and then click on the eBay links to help determine an accurate price range.

Trivia

To Clarify, and stop the rumors once and for all, this unit was EMneverEM produced. The actual game was about 75 percent completed when the project was cancelled due to numerous reasons. The closest anyone outside of Atari or the licensing company ever saw of the prototype is what you see on the arcade game screens in the film, which were based on the initial designs of the coinop game. There was EMoneEM set of wirewrapped prototype boards and those may have been reused in the creation of other games. The prototype software for the game may still exist in the archives at Atari, but getting access to it, and in turn using it, would be nearly impossible.PA version of The Last Starfighter game was created for the Atari 5200, however. The the ROM image for the game has recently become available and it can be played using a 5200 emulator.
