WARNING: THIS SECTION CONTAINS SERIOUS SPOILERS!

In this game, your gun is a six-shooter that must be pointed downwards in order to be reloaded. Throughout the game, if you see a cow skull or spitoon, shoot those items to receive extra bullets.

At the beginning of the game, there is a target practice session where you attempt to shoot up to five beer bottles on a wooden fence. Afterwards, as you head into town, an old prospector comes up to you and asks you for your help. He informs you that Mad Dog and his gang have taken over the town, the mayor and his daughter have been taken hostage at Mad Dog's hideout and the sheriff is locked up in his own jail. A couple of outlaws then try to shoot the informant before he can tell you more, but if you shoot them before they kill the prospector, he will tell you where to find the jail keys. If the prospector dies, however, you will have to find out for yourself.

Next, you get to choose which destination you want to go to by shooting it; select either the corral, the bank, the saloon or the sheriff's office. Each time you go to one of those destinations, you must shoot the outlaws but not the townspeople. For every innocent by-stander that is hit, a life will be deducted for it.

The corral is perhaps the most difficult destination in town. When you get past the bank, a young boy will warn you about what to do if you get to Mad Dog's hideout. Somtimes he will warn you not to approach from the front, but sometimes he will warn you not to approach from the rear, and you will have to remember that.

When you get to the saloon, you will find One-Eyed Jack and a few others of Mad Dog's henchmen. They will glare at you and start shooting at you and one of them will even try to shoot the bartender. After shooting all of them, if the bartender is killed, a barmaid will give you the keys, but if you save the bartender from being shot, he will give you the keys and he will also warn you that Mad Dog wears a bullet-proof vest, so you will have to remember to shoot Mad Dog in the head instead of the chest.

When you go to the sheriff's office, be sure you have the keys. If you go there without the keys, you will not be able to free the sheriff and you will be ambushed by outlaws as you attempt to leave. If you have the keys you can free the sheriff and he will help you rid the town of the other outlaws, but will be fatally wounded. Before the sheriff dies, he will inform you that the map to the hideout is in the gold mine, but you must talk to the prospector first.

After you have successfully made it past all four destinations in town, you will have a choice to either go to the prospector, the mine or the hideout. When you go to the prospector, he will be tied up to a pile of dynamite and Mad Dog will lite the fuse with a cigar, you must shoot the fuse and save the prospector before the dynamite explodes. Next, the prospector will inform you that the mine is booby-trapped for claim jumpers and you must shoot the lantern and either the pitchfork, the griddle, the pick-axe, the gold mining pan or the "Shaft #1" sign in order to enter the mine and get the map.

When you go to the mine, you will get another target practice round to shoot beer bottles thrown into the air. Next, you choose to go to the hideout and then you will see a post with two arrows on it leading in two different directions. You must shoot an arrow to choose a path, but be careful. If you choose the wrong one, you will be ambushed. If you choose the right one, however, you will be attacked by only one outlaw at a time instead of all at once.

When you make it to the hideout, you will have a choice to enter from the front or the rear. Here you must remember what the boy at the bank told you about approaching the hideout. When you are outside the hideout, shoot the cow skull on the chimney to shoot the stack off. Then, as the outlaws come out of the door, shoot them but cease fire when the mayor comes out. After the mayor has been rescued, go into the hideout. After you shoot another outlaw inside, you will find a note from Mad Dog telling you to meet him in town.

Between each of these sequences, you will sometimes be challenged to a showdown to see how fast you can draw. When you get back to town to save the mayor's daughter from Mad Dog, you will have to gun down a few more bandits before hand. When you meet Mad Dog at the final showdown, you must shoot him twice directly in the head; the first will stun him and the second will bring him down. Afterwards, the mayor, his daughter and the town will be saved and they'll thank you for it.
