Cabinet Information

The cabinet looks simliar in style to Assault. The upper sides of the machine are white and contain the Lazer-Tron Arcade PC logo. The base of the machine is all black.

Game Introduction

The game is a direct conversion from the PC game, but with a few changes. The monsters may drop an occasional prize pack when killed. The machine contains a prize printer that would print out a special ticket reward, presumably much like a redemption machine.

VAPS Arcade Census

GAMES OWNED, WANTED, or FOR SALE BY MEMBERS OF THE VIDEO ARCADE PRESERVATION SOCIETY

Scarce - There are 3 known instances of Quake - Arcade Tournament Edition owned by one of our 900 members. Of these, 2 of them are original dedicated machines, and it is a conversion in which game circuit boards (and possibly cabinet graphics) have been placed in (and on) another game cabinet

Of the 57,121 video games (3,420 unique) tracked by the Video Game Preservation Society, this game ranks a 1 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most commonly seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on ownership records.

Wanted - There are 2 VAPS members currently looking for Quake - Arcade Tournament Edition.

Rarity is NOT necessarily an indication of value. Some common games show up as very rare here because collectors don't want them (they are common because arcade operators might be sitting on tons of them in warehouses), while some fairly scarce games are grabbed by collectors every time they show up. Additionally, some games made in the last 5 years are still making money for operators and are thus not yet affordable to the typical collector. For a clue to value, compare how many people have this game vs. how many people want this game and then click on the eBay links to help determine an accurate price range.

Technical

The game is powered by a complete Pentium PC inside the game. A keyboard and mouse can be found immediately below the control panel (not accessible by the player, however). The PC contains a Quantum 3D video card used to display the game's graphics. There are a number of settings that affect options not available in the original PC version of the game. At least two cabinets can be linked together for deathmatch competitions.

Trivia

Supposedly only twenty of these prototypes were manufactured. When the game was first introduced, Lazer-Tron was bought out and due to problems with the contracted programmer, the game was never further developed. The introductory distributor sale price was $7500 according to Brady Distributing in Orlando, Florida.
