Willow Description

This is a scrolling adventure game following the plot of the Lucasfilm movie "Willow." As Willow, or Madmartigan (or both), the player(s) work their way through various stages, defeating numerous enemies and facing a large "boss" at the end of each stage ending with defeating Bavmorda, the evil antagonist from the movie.

Cheats, Tricks and Bugs

When facing Bavmorda as the Willow character, it is probably best to use the tornado for offense and the magic shield for defense.

Holding down the attack button will often speed up the lengthy narratives between levels.

Game Introduction

Make your way through a varied and interesting selection of levels to defeat the boss at the end. Along the way, pick up the coins from defeated enemies and treasure chests to spend at the various stores. The purchase of weapon power-ups are highly favorable since they will remain with you for the rest of the game. The game is very player-friendly in that it allows continued play from several places within each level. The graphics are very good, with an obvious Japanamation influence.

Game Play

The overall gameplay is excellent. The final battle against Bavmorda is highly challenging and well worth the reward at the end.

CAPS/VAPS Arcade Census

There are 6,452 members of the Classic Arcade Preservation Society / Video Arcade Preservation Society, 3,704 whom participate in our arcade census project of games owned, wanted, or for sale. Census data currently includes 60,894 machines (3,615 unique titles).

Common - There are 27 known instances of this machine owned by Willow collectors. Of these, 3 of them are original dedicated machines, and 24 of them are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.

This game ranks a 17 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most commonly seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on census ownership records.

Wanted - There is one VAPS member currently looking for Willow. There are 3 VAPS members looking for Willow board sets.

This game ranks a 11 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most commonly seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on census want list records.

For Sale - There are 0 VAPS members with extra Willow circuit boards for sale. VAPS members are totally independent of VAPS and the International Arcade Museum, and we are unable to recommend, endorce, or guarantee any person or company selling games or game parts.

Rarity is NOT necessarily an indication of value. Some common games show up as very rare here because collectors don't want them even though arcade operators might be sitting on tons of them in warehouses, while some fairly scarce games are grabbed by collectors every time they show up.

Additionally, some games made in the last 5 years are still making money for operators and are thus not yet affordable to the typical collector.

In particular, since VAPS started out focusing on videogames, statistics for other types of machines should not (yet) be an indication of scarcity.

For a clue to value, look at absolute numbers of owners and potential owners above, compare a ratio of how many people want this game vs. how many people have this game (4%) and then click on the eBay links to help determine an accurate price range.
