Conversion

The CPS-1 system is an "A" and "B" board pair. The B-board contains all the actual ROM data for the game. You can swap any B-board onto any A-board. There are some differences in A-boards, however. For instance, Street Fighter II Turbo Hyper Fighting has a faster clock, so if you put it's B-board on a slower A-board, it will run slower. The clock speed is printed on the oscillators on the A-board, so you will know.

VAPS Arcade/Coin-Op CP System I Census

There are 14,717 members of the Video Arcade Preservation Society / Vintage Arcade Preservation Society, 9,455 whom participate in our arcade census project of games owned, wanted, or for sale. Census data currently includes 164,291 machines (6,886 unique titles).

Common - There are 45 known instances of this machine owned by CP System I collectors who are active members. Of these, 3 of them are original dedicated machines. One is a conversion in which game circuit boards (and possibly cabinet graphics) have been placed in (and on) another game cabinet. 41 of them are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.

For Sale - There is one active VAPS member with an extra CP System I circuit board for sale.

Wanted - No active members have added this machine to their wish list.

This game ranks a 19 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most often seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on census ownership records.

Rarity and Popularity independently are not necessarily indications of value. [More Information]

Fixes

Some games that use this system have "suicide batteries". When these batteries die, the game will no longer operate. A hack exists to revive these games, even if both batteries are dead. The hack involves burning one or more new EPROMs, using the c-board from a different CPS-1 game (one that does not have a suicide battery), replacing the custom Z80 with a standard Z80, and with a few of the games, adding a couple of TTL chips and doing a bit of soldering. The CPS-1 games known to use suicide batteries are King Of Dragons, Knights Of The Round, Three Wonders, Captain Commando, The Punisher, Saturday Night Slam Masters, Cadillacs And Dinosaurs, Warriors Of Fate, Quiz & Dragons and the Japanese version of Varth: Operation Thunderstorm.
