Game Introduction

The Combatribes is a group of three vigilantes, led by Berserker, that protect the citizens of New York City from various gangs. One day, their former member, Martha Splatterhead, is captured by one of the more powerful crime syndicates and she is turned into a cyborg against her will. Now the Combatribes must track down the big boss of the gang and find the whereabouts of Martha Splatterhead.

Game Play

There are three different fighters in the game and each has different skills. Players control one of the following characters:
  • Berserker (blue - strength and speed equal)
  • Bullova (yellow - strength high and speed low)
  • Blitz (red - strength low and speed high)

The game has six levels that each have a unique scenario and each of the first five has a different gang with a different boss. The levels are as follows:

  1. The Motorcycle Nuclear Warheads; Boss: Fats, a fat man with a wooden board; Scenario: a street corner
  2. The Demon Clowns; Boss: Salamander, a fireeater with a torch; Scenario: an amusement park
  3. The Slash Skate Screamers; Boss: Thrash, a weird punk with a hammer; Scenario: a rollerskating rink
  4. The Stadium Barbarians; Boss: Tomahawk, a chief with a tomahawk; Scenario: a baseball stadium
  5. The Slaughter Troopers; Boss: Swastika, a cyborg general with robotic weapons; Scenario: a security building
  6. The Final Battle which takes place at a docking pier where all the gangs and bosses are encountered again. After that, you face against Martha Splatterhead (along with one or two clones if there are additional players) and then the game ends.

During each level, some items such as the motorcycle, pinball machine and race car can be picked up and used as weapons.

VAPS Arcade Census

GAMES OWNED, WANTED, or FOR SALE BY MEMBERS OF THE VIDEO ARCADE PRESERVATION SOCIETY

Common - There are 46 known instances of Combatribes, The owned by one of our 900 members. Of these, 2 of them are original dedicated machines, 4 of them are conversions in which game circuit boards (and possibly cabinet graphics) have been placed in (and on) another game cabinet, and 40 of them are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.

Of the 57,098 video games (3,420 unique) tracked by the Video Game Preservation Society, this game ranks a 22 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most commonly seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on ownership records.

Wanted - We currently do not know of any VAPS members that have gotten around to adding this game to their wish list. The wish-list system is fairly new (not all VAPS members have filled one out) and there are probably a number of collectors who might purchase this game if offered one at the right price.

For Sale - There are 0 VAPS members with extra Combatribes, The circuit boards for sale. VAPS members are totally independent of VAPS and the International Arcade Museum, and we are unable to recommend, endorce, or guarantee any person or company selling games or game parts.

Rarity is NOT necessarily an indication of value. Some common games show up as very rare here because collectors don't want them (they are common because arcade operators might be sitting on tons of them in warehouses), while some fairly scarce games are grabbed by collectors every time they show up. Additionally, some games made in the last 5 years are still making money for operators and are thus not yet affordable to the typical collector. For a clue to value, compare how many people have this game vs. how many people want this game and then click on the eBay links to help determine an accurate price range.
