Trivia

Kozmik Krooz'r may have actually been co-released with Wacko, so Wacko might not actually be a true prequel. Very few were probably produced in the first place, making this a difficult issue to resolve.

Cabinet Information

Kozmik Krooz'r is housed in a huge purple cabinet with artwork of Kapt. Krooz'r in his flying saucer on both sides. There is also artwork of Kapt. Krooz'r flying in his spaceship and/or zapping enemies on the marquee, the bezel, and the front of the control panel. The monitor is mounted so that it is slightly tilted away from the player, to give some perspective of depth. A yellow plastic spaceship -- the mothership that Kapt. Krooz'r must enter during the game -- constantly spins around. A red LED on the mothership illuminates when it sends out the tractor beam onto the screen. The mothership also has a sticker that says "5000 bonus points" on it.

The control panel is blue with a picure of Kapt. Kroozr near the middle on the top surface of the control panel. The controls are labeled in yellow and red and are "Aim" (the encoder wheel), "Shield" (pressing down the encoder wheel), "Zap" (the trigger on the joystick) and "Krooz" (moving the joystick). A blacklight illuminates the control panel so it appears to glow fluorescent blue, fluorescent red, and fluorescent yellow. A starfield is also illuminated by a blacklight and reflected in front of the monitor onto a transparent mirror.

Conversion

This game uses the MCR II boardset, which can be converted to play any other MCR II game simply by swapping the ROMS. The mapping of the controls to inputs to the CPU is likely to be different, since it is for almost every other MCR II game. Otherwise, Kozmik Krooz'r may technically be converted to play any other MCR II series game.

Fixes

Kozmik Krooz'r is an MCR series game that suffers from all the problems common to other games of that series. There is often battery damage on the power supply regulator board and the ribbon cables connecting the three boards often go bad. If the yellow plastic spaceship does not spin for any reason, the game will not boot, remaining hung at a green grid screen. There is a purple sense wire running from a PCB below the saucer to the motherboard. This wire must get grounded at power-on to boot the game.
