Pleiads Description

In this multi-wave space shooter, enemy ships come at you in scrolling waves. Growing bird-like ships swoop down at the player's ship as more enemy ships spring forth from the mothership. During the final wave, the player must navigate around parked ships to hit landing pad right on.

Cheats, Tricks and Bugs

Bug - When the final alien is killed on the very first wave, the game says that you be rewarded x amount of points, but this bonus is never added to your score.

Cheat - on the second round, shoot all but one alien. Then move the ship to the far left, wait for the alien to be in a firing line, then shoot. Its bullets will now go through you as long as you keep him in that position. You can quickly dart left and right, shooting it to death, racking up points very quickly. After about three minutes of this, the alien becomes highly annoyed and will hover right below you, and do all kind of neato moves. It is quite a sight to see!

VAPS Arcade Census

GAMES OWNED, WANTED, or FOR SALE BY MEMBERS OF THE VIDEO ARCADE PRESERVATION SOCIETY

Very Common - There are 64 known instances of Pleiads owned by one of our 900 members. Of these, 26 of them are original dedicated machines, 2 of them are conversions in which game circuit boards (and possibly cabinet graphics) have been placed in (and on) another game cabinet, and 36 of them are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.

Of the 57,121 video games (3,420 unique) tracked by the Video Game Preservation Society, this game ranks a 29 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most commonly seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on ownership records.

Wanted - There is one VAPS member currently looking for Pleiads. There is one VAPS member looking for a Pleiads circuit board set.

For Sale - There are 5 VAPS members with Pleiads machines for sale. There are 5 VAPS members with extra Pleiads circuit boards for sale. VAPS members are totally independent of VAPS and the International Arcade Museum, and we are unable to recommend, endorce, or guarantee any person or company selling games or game parts.

Rarity is NOT necessarily an indication of value. Some common games show up as very rare here because collectors don't want them (they are common because arcade operators might be sitting on tons of them in warehouses), while some fairly scarce games are grabbed by collectors every time they show up. Additionally, some games made in the last 5 years are still making money for operators and are thus not yet affordable to the typical collector. For a clue to value, compare how many people have this game vs. how many people want this game and then click on the eBay links to help determine an accurate price range.

Technical

DIP switches one through four set the initial number of lives a player is given. DIP switch five sets the number of coins per credit. DIP switch eight sets either cocktail or upright mode.

Trivia

The Centuri marquee incorrectly spells the game as "Pleiades" but the software ROMs and main screen spell the game as "Pleiads."
