Qix II: Tournament

This game is still the same hypnotic abstract challenge as the original, yet offers a reward an extra life to the skilled and patient players if they are savvy enough to sustain the nerve wracking tension of accumulating a 90 percentile bid. The key is to skirt the edges and use the draw buttons as little as possible while crafting a narrow crevice or two, allowing a yield of ninety plus percent. As far as is known, the extra life award may be monopolized as many times as possible.

This game plays the same as the original, but with a few slight modifications. There is a bonus feature that awards an extra life if 90 percent or more of the screen is enclosed. This version also supports a different color scheme than its predecessor.

The mastery of Qix comes basically from the avoidance of the Sparx. These enemies only follow the territorial boundaries of the screen and the "Stix" drawn by the player's marker. Dodging the Sparx by drawing a small segment allowing them to pass underneath and follow the circuit of the Stix allows the player plenty of time for strategy. The patient Qix player will succeed whereas the haphazard or bold approach of drawing across huge expanses of empty board is typically an exercise in futility.

The "Qix" was also called the "Helix" in the old arcade parlance.
