Cabinet Information

There is a universal cabinet that contains all types of controls used throughout this entire series of games.

Conversion

Just change the cartridges to convert to a new game.

There is also the Yamaha GD-ROM Drive, which is available. It is both compatible with both the NAOMI and the new NAOMI2 Systems. These proprietary-format discs can hold more data (1 GB) and are more economical than cartridges.

VAPS Arcade Census

GAMES OWNED, WANTED, or FOR SALE BY MEMBERS OF THE VIDEO ARCADE PRESERVATION SOCIETY

Common - There are 43 known instances of Sega NAOMI System owned by one of our 3,650 members who participate in our machine census project. Of these, 4 of them are original dedicated machines, 3 of them are conversions in which game circuit boards (and possibly cabinet graphics) have been placed in (and on) another game cabinet, and 36 of them are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.

Of the 59,767 machines (3,520 unique) tracked by the Video Game Preservation Society, this game ranks a 12 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most commonly seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on ownership records.

Wanted - There is one VAPS member currently looking for Sega NAOMI System. There is one VAPS member looking for a Sega NAOMI System circuit board set.

For Sale - There are 0 VAPS members with extra Sega NAOMI System circuit boards for sale. VAPS members are totally independent of VAPS and the International Arcade Museum, and we are unable to recommend, endorce, or guarantee any person or company selling games or game parts.

Rarity is NOT necessarily an indication of value. Some common games show up as very rare here because collectors don't want them (they are common because arcade operators might be sitting on tons of them in warehouses), while some fairly scarce games are grabbed by collectors every time they show up. Additionally, some games made in the last 5 years are still making money for operators and are thus not yet affordable to the typical collector. For a clue to value, compare how many people have this game vs. how many people want this game and then click on the eBay links to help determine an accurate price range.

Technical

CPU: Hitachi SH4 running at 200 MHz
GRAPHICS ENGINE: NEC/Videologic PowerVR2, 128-bit engine
MEMORY: Main - 32 MB; Graphics- 16 MB
COLORS: 1.67 million

There is also an enhanced version of the Naomi board, called the Hikaru board. This was used for Brave Firefighters and Star Wars Racer Arcade.

The NAOMI/Hikaru boards are slightly more advanced than Dreamcasts, so it takes a while to convert the games.
