Skins Game Description

A realistic golf game where you play up to 18-holes on one of three authentically recreated courses from Arizona, Illinois, or Florida. Skilled players can use the keypad to store secret codes. The game had four modes of play. The Tournament mode allowed players to compete against others around the world for cash and prizes when the Midway Tournament Network was operational. The Competitive mode was realistic simulation with control for forward and back spin. The Extreme mode allowed the player to control the ball in air in addition to forward and back spin. The Hole In One contest allowed you to control the ball in the air and apply forward or back spin. You had three chances to get a hole in one to move to the next hole. All four modes include power ups such as Mulligans, Power Shots, Perfect Power Shots, Anti-Hazard Shots, and Grenade golf balls that would explode.

Cabinet Information

The cabinet displays the name and a golfer on each side, a man on the left and a woman on the right.

Game Introduction

Select gameplay mode from practice, competitive, tournament, and extreme play. Choose from six players (three men and three women) and a course to play.

Game Play

This is a golf simulator, so all the rules of realistic golfing apply here, with some 'extra' features in the extreme mode. Each credit plays three holes. The keypad allows added features to the tournament mode.

VAPS Arcade Census

GAMES OWNED, WANTED, or FOR SALE BY MEMBERS OF THE VIDEO ARCADE PRESERVATION SOCIETY

Uncommon - There are 13 known instances of Skins Game owned by one of our 3,650 members who participate in our machine census project. Of these, 4 of them are original dedicated machines, 5 of them are conversions in which game circuit boards (and possibly cabinet graphics) have been placed in (and on) another game cabinet, and 4 of them are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.

Of the 59,767 machines (3,520 unique) tracked by the Video Game Preservation Society, this game ranks a 6 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most commonly seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on ownership records.

Wanted - We currently do not know of any VAPS members that have gotten around to adding this game to their wish list. The wish-list system is fairly new (not all VAPS members have filled one out) and there are probably a number of collectors who might purchase this game if offered one at the right price.

For Sale - There are 2 VAPS members with Skins Game machines for sale. VAPS members are totally independent of VAPS and the International Arcade Museum, and we are unable to recommend, endorce, or guarantee any person or company selling games or game parts.

Rarity is NOT necessarily an indication of value. Some common games show up as very rare here because collectors don't want them (they are common because arcade operators might be sitting on tons of them in warehouses), while some fairly scarce games are grabbed by collectors every time they show up. Additionally, some games made in the last 5 years are still making money for operators and are thus not yet affordable to the typical collector. For a clue to value, compare how many people have this game vs. how many people want this game and then click on the eBay links to help determine an accurate price range.

Trivia

This is one of the first games by Midway Games West, the company formerly known as Atari Games.
