Street Fighter III: New Generation Description

A one-on-one fighting game. There are eight characters to choose from including twins with the same abilities and a very annoying boss. The game has smoother animation than in any other previous game in this series.

Cabinet Information

The game was manufactured in either a standard JAMMA cabinet or in a deluxe projection screen cabinet. The marquee is blue-purple with pictures of two of the fighters, Alex and Ryu, on either side. Above them, it says "A New Generation of Street Fighters" and in the center, it says "Three". The control panel has a gray brick design containing data of the fighters and their Super Arts.

Conversion

This game is the second Capcom game to use the CPS III system; the first was Red Earth. Since the CPS III system uses both a CD-ROM and a cartridge, it is quite easy to convert to any other CPS-III game.

Game Introduction

The long awaited sequel to Street Fighter II - The World Warrior, this game features the not-so-unexpected return of Ryu and Ken plus a new generation of street fighters.

Game Play

Air-blocking and taunts from the Alpha series have been replaced by parrying. To parry a hit, you increase your super meter, but not the attacker's. This technique, called "offensive blocking" is performed by hitting towards your opponent just before you get hit.

Miscellaneous

The only returning characters are Ken and Ryu, the rest are new. However, some of the new characters are related to the old ones. Sean is Ken's pupil, Yang and Yun are Gen's grandsons and Ibuki is rumored to be the daughter of Geki (a ninja from the original Street Fighter). Some characters have fighting styles similar to some of the older characters.

VAPS Arcade Census

GAMES OWNED, WANTED, or FOR SALE BY MEMBERS OF THE VIDEO ARCADE PRESERVATION SOCIETY

Common - There are 31 known instances of Street Fighter III: New Generation owned by one of our 900 members. Of these, It is an original dedicated machine., 7 of them are conversions in which game circuit boards (and possibly cabinet graphics) have been placed in (and on) another game cabinet, and 23 of them are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.

Of the 57,098 video games (3,420 unique) tracked by the Video Game Preservation Society, this game ranks a 12 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most commonly seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on ownership records.

Wanted - We currently do not know of any VAPS members that have gotten around to adding this game to their wish list. The wish-list system is fairly new (not all VAPS members have filled one out) and there are probably a number of collectors who might purchase this game if offered one at the right price.

For Sale - There is one VAPS member with a Street Fighter III: New Generation machine for sale. There are 1 VAPS members with extra Street Fighter III: New Generation circuit boards for sale. VAPS members are totally independent of VAPS and the International Arcade Museum, and we are unable to recommend, endorce, or guarantee any person or company selling games or game parts.

Rarity is NOT necessarily an indication of value. Some common games show up as very rare here because collectors don't want them (they are common because arcade operators might be sitting on tons of them in warehouses), while some fairly scarce games are grabbed by collectors every time they show up. Additionally, some games made in the last 5 years are still making money for operators and are thus not yet affordable to the typical collector. For a clue to value, compare how many people have this game vs. how many people want this game and then click on the eBay links to help determine an accurate price range.

Trivia

Sean is Ken's would-be student from Brazil.
