The object is to uncover a background image by drawing rectangles with your cursor. You must avoid several enemies on the screen while doing this. Bonus points are awarded for uncovering a larger portion of the image than the minimum.

Game Play

Obviously, this game is a sequel to Qix. The gameplay is identical, it just has better graphics. The 'bad guy' looks like a Gremlin from the movie rather than lines like in the original. You also have power-ups that appear when you complete a square such as faster speed, a one-time shield against hitting a bad guy, warp to the next level, etc. You can also collect letters that may appear instead if the power up, and if you spell a word you get bonus points. I also received a free credit once for completing 98 percent of the level.

VAPS Arcade Census

GAMES OWNED, WANTED, or FOR SALE BY MEMBERS OF THE VIDEO ARCADE PRESERVATION SOCIETY

Common - There are 35 known instances of Super Qix owned by one of our 900 members. Of these, 3 of them are conversions in which game circuit boards (and possibly cabinet graphics) have been placed in (and on) another game cabinet, and 32 of them are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.

Of the 57,121 video games (3,420 unique) tracked by the Video Game Preservation Society, this game ranks a 26 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most commonly seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on ownership records.

Wanted - There is one VAPS member currently looking for Super Qix. There are 2 VAPS members looking for Super Qix board sets.

Rarity is NOT necessarily an indication of value. Some common games show up as very rare here because collectors don't want them (they are common because arcade operators might be sitting on tons of them in warehouses), while some fairly scarce games are grabbed by collectors every time they show up. Additionally, some games made in the last 5 years are still making money for operators and are thus not yet affordable to the typical collector. For a clue to value, compare how many people have this game vs. how many people want this game and then click on the eBay links to help determine an accurate price range.

Technical

The game board is very compact and it does not have any identifying marks on the board, which is unusual for Taito. There are no proprietary ICs except for the EPROMs nor are there any empty sockets.
