Top Gunner Description1 or 2 players operate a jeep on a vertically scrolling field, the mission is to save POW's and deliver them to helicopter pads throughout the game. Your armament is a machine gun, and a grenade thrower, which can be converted into a missile launcher with bonuses.Know anything more about this game? Cheats, Tricks and BugsHigh scores for this game are obtained through saving POWs. Make sure your jeeps is full (eight men) before letting them off at the helo pad. DO NOT move while the transfer of men happens. You will receive not only a huge score bonus but also be upgraded automatically to the best weapon possible. Also, pick up glowing POWs while at full power weapon and you will receive 10,000 each! These are the POWs that come out of the shooting bunkers.A word of advice; only keep seven men on board until you reach the helo pad area, as there is almost always a glowing POW bunker nearby and having only seven men on board will allow you to pick up that last man, get another level of powerup, plus fill your jeep to capacity. MiscellaneousThis game is known in Europe as Jackal and in Japan as Tokushu Butai Jackal (Special Force Jackal). Some bootleg Top Gunner boards allow a rotary style Ikari Warriors controller to be used that allows aiming of the machine gun.VAPS Arcade CensusGAMES OWNED, WANTED, or FOR SALE BY MEMBERS OF THE VIDEO ARCADE PRESERVATION SOCIETYCommon - There are 28 known instances of Top Gunner owned by one of our 900 members. Of these, 2 of them are original dedicated machines, 11 of them are conversions in which game circuit boards (and possibly cabinet graphics) have been placed in (and on) another game cabinet, and 15 of them are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired. Wanted - We currently do not know of any VAPS members that have gotten around to adding this game to their wish list. The wish-list system is fairly new (not all VAPS members have filled one out) and there are probably a number of collectors who might purchase this game if offered one at the right price. For Sale - There are 4 VAPS members with Top Gunner machines for sale. There is one VAPS member with an extra Top Gunner circuit board for sale. VAPS members are totally independent of VAPS and the International Arcade Museum, and we are unable to recommend, endorce, or guarantee any person or company selling games or game parts. Rarity is NOT necessarily an indication of value. Some common games show up as very rare here because collectors don't want them (they are common because arcade operators might be sitting on tons of them in warehouses), while some fairly scarce games are grabbed by collectors every time they show up. Additionally, some games made in the last 5 years are still making money for operators and are thus not yet affordable to the typical collector.
