Cheats, Tricks and Bugs

While fighting Mike, he must have a lower energy than yours. Now, push Down and Left together while you go to the lower left hand corner. Be still while the timer runs out.

Conversion

The PCB board can be swapped to the other Street Fighter series games.

Game Introduction

The player controls Ryu (blue, player 1), or Ken (red, player 2). The countries rotate clockwise: Japan, United States Of America, China, England, and Thailand.

Each country has two different opponents who the player must face in two different fights. As follows:

  • Japan: Retsu and Geki
  • United States Of America: Joe and Mike
  • China: Gen and Lee
  • England: Birdie and Eagle
  • Thailand: Adon and Sagat
The player must defeat Sagat in order to win and finish the game.

Game Play

Capcom's first one-on-one fighting game and the original six-buttons-per-player fighting title. Hidden special moves enabled the player, who could use either Ryu (player 1) or Ken (player 2), to throw Hadou-Ken, execute Tatsumaki Senpuu-Kyaku and Shoryuu-Ken. The players could also perform the standard moves that include jumping, standing and crouching along with strong, medium and weak punches and kicks.

Miscellaneous

The dedicated versions of the game used special pneumatic controls that were connected directly to the game board via air hoses. Depending upon how hard the control was hit, the game would choose the type of hit the player character would perform. These controls wore out or would constantly require adjustment due to abuse.

VAPS Arcade Census

GAMES OWNED, WANTED, or FOR SALE BY MEMBERS OF THE VIDEO ARCADE PRESERVATION SOCIETY

Common - There are 46 known instances of Street Fighter owned by one of our 900 members. Of these, 11 of them are original dedicated machines, 3 of them are conversions in which game circuit boards (and possibly cabinet graphics) have been placed in (and on) another game cabinet, and 32 of them are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.

Of the 57,121 video games (3,420 unique) tracked by the Video Game Preservation Society, this game ranks a 16 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most commonly seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on ownership records.

Wanted - There are 6 VAPS members currently looking for Street Fighter. There is one VAPS member looking for a Street Fighter circuit board set.

For Sale - There are 3 VAPS members with Street Fighter machines for sale. There is one VAPS member with an extra Street Fighter circuit board for sale. VAPS members are totally independent of VAPS and the International Arcade Museum, and we are unable to recommend, endorce, or guarantee any person or company selling games or game parts.

Rarity is NOT necessarily an indication of value. Some common games show up as very rare here because collectors don't want them (they are common because arcade operators might be sitting on tons of them in warehouses), while some fairly scarce games are grabbed by collectors every time they show up. Additionally, some games made in the last 5 years are still making money for operators and are thus not yet affordable to the typical collector. For a clue to value, compare how many people have this game vs. how many people want this game and then click on the eBay links to help determine an accurate price range.

Trivia

The birthplace of Street Fighter characters Ryu, Ken and Sagat. Also the birthplace of Adon, Gen, and Birdie from Street Fighter Zero (also Street Fighter Alpha: Warriors' Dreams).

This game was designed by Yoshiki Okamoto. Okamoto designed two games while at Konami: Time Pilot and Gyruss. He later went to Capcom where he also designed 1942, 1943 The Battle Of Midway, and Final Fight.

The title screen has several Capcom games listed on the brick wall: Avengers, Commando, Wings (Legendary Wings), and Trojan.
