Game Introduction

One of a couple of blackmarket upgrades which appeared during Street Fighter II - The World Warrior's peak. The upgrade allowed players to throw homing projectles, and switch characters in mid-round by pressing your start button (the change follows the order Ryu-E. Honda-Blanka-Guile-Ken-Chun Li-Zangief-Dhalsim-Balrog-Vega-Sagat-M. Bison), and teleport to another side of the screen. Results may vary as this was a blackmarket upgrade.

Conversion

This was actually a blackmarket upgrade to Street Fighter II - Champion Edition. The upgrade was simply a set of ROMs, usually referred to as "Rainbow" or "Rainbow Edition" chips. This game is easily identified by the "Rainbow" pattern through the "STREET FIGHTER II" logo on the title screen.

Miscellaneous

I can only remember one other blackmarket upgrade by the name of Blackbelt Edition. Capcom eventually took legal action against the manufacturers of the product. One version of this story is that Capcom brought Hyper Fighting out after the lawsuit to satisfy the general public. Another version is that Capcom brought Hyper Fighting into the market so that they would have a better reason for taking legal action as they would then be considered a threat to their market. Either way, part of the reason Hyper Fighting exists is because of the appearance of these blackmarket upgrades.
