Conversion

The game can be converted to Ghosts 'n Goblins or Trojan by simply swapping boards.

Game Introduction

Fly a jetpacked-spaceman through continuously scrolling tunnels shooting various spacecraft and wall-mounted cannons. The sections are marked "A" to "Z" and there are end-of-level craft to destroy at E, J, O, T and Z.

The direction of scrolling changes after defeating each boss. Sections A through E scroll right to left, F through J scroll top to bottom, etc.

Game Play

A spaceman faces either left or right shooting a laser gun horizontally and throwing grenades with each press of the fire button. Use the Turn button to face the other direction. When you die you go back to the start of the current section.

Destroying certain ground targets release B, S or P symbols that you collect for bonus, speed-up or weapon power-up respectively.

VAPS Arcade Census

GAMES OWNED, WANTED, or FOR SALE BY MEMBERS OF THE VIDEO ARCADE PRESERVATION SOCIETY

Uncommon - There are 14 known instances of Section Z owned by one of our 900 members. Of these, 3 of them are original dedicated machines, it is a conversion in which game circuit boards (and possibly cabinet graphics) have been placed in (and on) another game cabinet, and 10 of them are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.

Of the 57,098 video games (3,420 unique) tracked by the Video Game Preservation Society, this game ranks a 7 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most commonly seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on ownership records.

Wanted - We currently do not know of any VAPS members that have gotten around to adding this game to their wish list. The wish-list system is fairly new (not all VAPS members have filled one out) and there are probably a number of collectors who might purchase this game if offered one at the right price.

Rarity is NOT necessarily an indication of value. Some common games show up as very rare here because collectors don't want them (they are common because arcade operators might be sitting on tons of them in warehouses), while some fairly scarce games are grabbed by collectors every time they show up. Additionally, some games made in the last 5 years are still making money for operators and are thus not yet affordable to the typical collector. For a clue to value, compare how many people have this game vs. how many people want this game and then click on the eBay links to help determine an accurate price range.

Trivia

This game is the first of Capcom's 'Jet-Pack Hero' shooters. Other games that fall into this catergory are Side Arms - Hyper Dyne and Forgotten Worlds.

The NES home version of this game is very different in that it is not linear - rather, you have to pick a direction (and hopefully the right one) at the end of each level to move on. The hero in the NES version is called "Captain Commando".
