Timber Description

Controlling one of two lumberjacks, you run madly around the screen chopping down trees as they sprout suddenly out of the ground while racing the clock and avoiding beehive throwing bears. Running birds are a bonus.

Cabinet Information

All dedicated machine housings were originally Tapper cabinets. If you peel away the lumberjack sideart you will find original Tapper sideart underneath (we are not advocating you try this, however!). A square Timber sticker was added just below the control panel. Some cabinets were originally Root Beer Tapper and others were the original "Budweiser" variety. You can tell which the style by examining the sides of the control panel area. If there is a rectangular black piece of wood on each side, as seen in the cabinet picture to the right, you have a the "Budweiser" version. If the pieces of wood are not there, the cabinet was a Root Beer Tapper.

This cabinet is nice looking and well done. The upper side has a large drawing of a lumber jack with an axe over his shoulder and a log cabin and trees in the background. From the control panel down (in front and on the sides) it looks like rough wood paneling. The control panel itself looks like a log.

Game Play

The same artist who created the characters for Tapper created the characters for this game. The resemblences between the bartender and the lumberjacks are unmistakable. The music will also be familiar to those acquainted with Tapper.

This game is best experienced with two players. You can cooperate to get finished quick, or stiff your partner to clean up on points. (Example: Pushing a tree over on him just before he finishes cutting it down). You must finish in the specified length of time or the cigar smoking boss will blow the whistle and you will lose one life.

The round is finished after all the tress have been cut down and the player with the highest tree count gets a bonus; the other player gets slapped around or drilled into the ground by the brute boss. There is a bonus screen where the object is to stay balanced on a log spinning back and forth in the water. The surface you stand on gets smaller in the higher levels.

VAPS Arcade Census

GAMES OWNED, WANTED, or FOR SALE BY MEMBERS OF THE VIDEO ARCADE PRESERVATION SOCIETY

Common - There are 21 known instances of Timber owned by one of our 900 members. Of these, 20 of them are original dedicated machines, and it is a conversion in which game circuit boards (and possibly cabinet graphics) have been placed in (and on) another game cabinet

Of the 57,098 video games (3,420 unique) tracked by the Video Game Preservation Society, this game ranks a 9 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most commonly seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on ownership records.

Wanted - There are 2 VAPS members currently looking for Timber. There is one VAPS member looking for a Timber circuit board set.

Rarity is NOT necessarily an indication of value. Some common games show up as very rare here because collectors don't want them (they are common because arcade operators might be sitting on tons of them in warehouses), while some fairly scarce games are grabbed by collectors every time they show up. Additionally, some games made in the last 5 years are still making money for operators and are thus not yet affordable to the typical collector. For a clue to value, compare how many people have this game vs. how many people want this game and then click on the eBay links to help determine an accurate price range.
