Zupapa Description

An action puzzle game where you play as a Zupapa, a strange creature that hurls tiny Zupipi characters at your foes. The more Zupipi on an enemy when he is trampled, the larger the explosion.

Game Introduction

The game is similar to Nightmare In The Dark, another action puzzler released the same year from SNK. This game, originally completed in 1994 but released in 2001, has a few more refined features including the ability to jump down.

Players must collect the four small Zupipi creatures in order to use them against their opponents. There are many power-ups that can be used as well, including speed-up, power-up (throws all Zupipi at once), power-ups that make jumps worth 100 points, etc.

Bonus stages allow a player to collect fruit and goodies for points. There are nine stages, six selectable from the start of the game. On each stage the enemies and boss reflect a common theme.

VAPS Arcade Census

GAMES OWNED, WANTED, or FOR SALE BY MEMBERS OF THE VIDEO ARCADE PRESERVATION SOCIETY

Uncommon - There are 20 known instances of Zupapa owned by one of our 900 members. Of these, It is an original dedicated machine (not another machine converted with a kit)., and 19 of them are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.

Of the 57,098 video games (3,420 unique) tracked by the Video Game Preservation Society, this game ranks a 10 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most commonly seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on ownership records.

Wanted - We currently do not know of any VAPS members that have gotten around to adding this game to their wish list. The wish-list system is fairly new (not all VAPS members have filled one out) and there are probably a number of collectors who might purchase this game if offered one at the right price.

Rarity is NOT necessarily an indication of value. Some common games show up as very rare here because collectors don't want them (they are common because arcade operators might be sitting on tons of them in warehouses), while some fairly scarce games are grabbed by collectors every time they show up. Additionally, some games made in the last 5 years are still making money for operators and are thus not yet affordable to the typical collector. For a clue to value, compare how many people have this game vs. how many people want this game and then click on the eBay links to help determine an accurate price range.

Trivia

Long rumored a lost title, and shown on many Neo Prototype pages as a 1994 proto, Zupapa finally sees the light of day in 2001.

Fixes

Continue does not always work if the machine is set to freeplay. Running in credit mode, or adding a credit when continue is not working in freeplay will fix the problem.
